The SKF 61808-2RS1 sealed thin section deep groove ball bearing provides rotational support where designers must minimise the diameter and width of a bearing arrangement. Its unusually small cross-section makes it useful in lightweight mechanisms, compact rotary joints and specialist equipment with restricted housing dimensions. The single row ball design accommodates radial loads and limited axial forces in either direction, subject to its relatively low load capacity. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 4.49kN, a basic static load rating of 3.75kN and a limiting speed of 7,500rpm. These values are important when evaluating the bearing for precision equipment, particularly where belt tension, shock loading or continuous running may influence bearing life.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals protect both sides of the bearing, retaining the factory grease and helping restrict the entry of dust and moisture. This eliminates the need for routine external greasing in many suitably protected assemblies. However, contact seals produce additional friction compared with open bearings, making operating temperature and rotational speed relevant selection factors. Normal radial internal clearance also requires accurate shaft and housing tolerances. Because the rings are exceptionally thin, excessive interference fits, housing distortion or incorrect mounting pressure can affect internal clearance and performance. This bearing is best selected for space-efficient, appropriately loaded applications rather than as a substitute for a larger industrial bearing.
Typical Applications:
Compact robotic joints and rotary mechanisms
Precision positioning and indexing equipment
Lightly loaded automation shaft assemblies
Small rotary handling and measuring equipment
Specialised machinery with ultra-thin bearing housings
