The SKF 6020-2Z double-shielded deep groove ball bearing provides a space-efficient solution for rotating machinery with a 100mm shaft diameter. Its 150mm outside diameter and 24mm width give it a slimmer cross-section than the corresponding 6220 bearing, making it suitable where radial installation space is restricted and operating loads remain within the bearing's rated capacity. The single row deep groove raceways accommodate predominantly radial loads together with axial forces acting in either direction. SKF specifies a 63.7kN basic dynamic load rating and 54kN basic static load rating, allowing engineers to assess bearing life and resistance to permanent deformation under load. The SKF Explorer design is intended to deliver consistent rolling performance when correctly selected, mounted and lubricated.
The 2Z designation identifies pressed steel shields on both sides rather than contacting rubber seals. These non-contact shields help retain factory-applied grease and reduce the entry of larger particles while maintaining low friction, but they provide less protection against water and fine contamination than contact seals. SKF publishes a 4,500rpm limiting speed and a 9,500rpm reference speed; these are different catalogue parameters and should not be treated as interchangeable operating limits. The bearing has normal (CN) radial internal clearance and a sheet metal cage. Shaft fits, housing tolerances and operating temperatures should be assessed because interference mounting and thermal effects can alter running clearance. For replacements, confirm the full 6020-2Z designation, especially where an alternative C3-clearance or rubber-sealed version has been specified.
