The SKF 61816-2RS1 sealed deep groove ball bearing is designed for applications where a comparatively large shaft diameter must be accommodated within a particularly small bearing cross-section. Its 618 series geometry offers a much slimmer arrangement than conventional 60, 62 or 63 series bearings of the same bore. The single row ball design supports radial loads and moderate axial forces in either direction, although its thin section means that load capacity must be assessed carefully. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 12.7kN and a basic static load rating of 11.2kN. These ratings are important when selecting the bearing for compact mechanisms with restricted housing dimensions rather than heavy-duty shaft supports.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals provide protection on both sides of the bearing, retaining factory grease and helping restrict the entry of dust and moisture. This is useful in compact assemblies where external lubrication arrangements would be difficult to accommodate. The catalogue limiting speed is 3,600rpm, but actual permissible operation depends on load, temperature and seal friction. Normal radial internal clearance requires careful attention to mounting tolerances, especially because the thin rings can be sensitive to shaft and housing fit conditions. Suitable installation and alignment are essential to avoid unwanted distortion and premature wear.
Typical Applications:
Compact rotary equipment and mechanisms
Space-restricted industrial shaft assemblies
Lightly loaded precision drive systems
Compact automation and handling equipment
Thin-section bearing arrangements in specialised machinery
