The SKF 61821-2RS1 sealed thin-section deep groove ball bearing is designed for large-diameter shaft arrangements where radial space and installation width are restricted. Its slender 618 series geometry provides a radial section of only 12.5mm, offering a substantially smaller bearing envelope than conventional 60, 62 or 63 series alternatives. The single row ball construction accommodates predominantly radial loading and limited axial forces in either direction. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 20.8kN, a basic static load rating of 19.6kN and a limiting speed of 2,800rpm. These values should be assessed against actual loads and duty cycles, particularly where the compact cross-section limits capacity compared with heavier bearing series.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals retain factory grease and help restrict dust and moisture from entering the rolling elements. This makes the bearing useful in enclosed rotating machinery where routine relubrication would be difficult. Contact sealing introduces additional friction, so rotational speed and heat generation must be considered during selection. Normal radial internal clearance requires careful assessment of shaft and housing fits, especially where interference mounting or temperature differences can reduce operating clearance. The relatively thin rings also require uniform housing support and correctly applied mounting forces to avoid distortion. When replacing an existing bearing, confirm the full sealing and clearance designation rather than choosing a replacement based on bore diameter alone.
Typical Applications:
Large-diameter rotary positioning mechanisms
Space-restricted industrial shaft assemblies
Precision indexing and automation equipment
Lightly loaded large-bore rotating mechanisms
Specialised machinery with compact bearing housings
