The SKF 61824-2RS1 sealed thin-section deep groove ball bearing supports large-diameter rotating shafts in applications where bearing width and outside diameter are tightly constrained. Its 618 series construction offers a much smaller cross-section than conventional 60, 62 or 63 series bearings of the same bore, making it useful for space-restricted rotary equipment. The single row ball design accommodates radial loads and axial forces in either direction within its rated capacity. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 29.1kN and a basic static load rating of 28kN. These figures are important when assessing bearing life and stationary loading, particularly where the reduced bearing section limits capacity compared with heavier series.
The 2RS1 double rubber contact seals retain factory grease and help restrict dust and moisture from entering the rolling elements. This is beneficial where external lubrication arrangements would be difficult to accommodate, although contact sealing creates additional friction compared with an open bearing. SKF lists a limiting speed of 2,400rpm for this configuration, so temperature and rotational speed must be considered alongside load. Normal radial internal clearance requires carefully selected shaft and housing fits. Because the rings are relatively thin for their diameter, excessive interference or uneven housing support can reduce operating clearance and affect running performance. The alternative 61824-2RZ uses a lower-friction non-contact seal arrangement and should not be treated as an identical replacement.
