The SKF 6218-2RS1 sealed deep groove ball bearing is designed for substantial shaft loads in machinery where both bearing capacity and installation dimensions influence equipment design. Its 62 series geometry offers a useful balance between the slimmer 6018 and larger 6318 bearings, allowing engineers to select an appropriate housing size for the calculated duty. The single row deep groove raceway arrangement supports predominantly radial loads and accommodates axial forces acting in either direction within its rated limits. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 101kN and a basic static load rating of 73.5kN. These values provide the basis for assessing fatigue life and stationary or peak loads in heavy industrial equipment.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals retain the factory grease and form a protective barrier against contamination entering from either side. This is especially useful in enclosed drive units where frequent bearing maintenance would be inconvenient. The manufacturer lists a limiting speed of 2,600rpm for the contact-sealed version, so operating temperature, frictional heating and grease condition should be considered before specifying continuous service. Its normal radial internal clearance differs from the increased clearance of a C3 variant, which may be required under particular mounting fits or thermal conditions. During installation, suitable shaft and housing tolerances, accurate alignment and mounting forces applied to the correct bearing ring help prevent premature damage.
Typical Applications:
Large industrial electric motor shaft assemblies
Heavy-duty conveyor and material-handling drives
Industrial pump and fluid circulation equipment
Large ventilation fans and extraction systems
Gearbox and mechanical power transmission assemblies
