The SKF 623-2RS1 sealed miniature deep groove ball bearing is intended for precision mechanisms where even a small increase in bearing size could affect the surrounding design. With a 3mm bore and only 4mm of axial width, it supports miniature shafts while leaving room for closely spaced gears, spacers and other mechanical components. Its single row deep groove construction accommodates primarily radial loads, together with limited axial forces in either direction. SKF's published catalogue specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 0.54kN and a basic static load rating of 0.18kN. These modest ratings highlight the importance of checking shaft loads, vibration and operating duty before selecting the bearing.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals cover both sides of the bearing, helping preserve the factory grease and restrict dirt and moisture from entering the raceways. This is useful in small assemblies where routine lubrication or disassembly may be impractical. SKF lists a limiting speed of 40,000rpm for this contact-sealed version, but that figure is not a guaranteed continuous operating speed; load, temperature and seal friction must also be considered. Normal radial internal clearance requires particular care with miniature shaft and housing fits because excessive interference can reduce running clearance. During installation, apply fitting pressure directly to the appropriate ring to avoid damaging the very small rolling elements.
