The SKF 6224-2RS1 sealed deep groove ball bearing is designed for substantial industrial rotating equipment where high radial load capacity is required within a defined bearing envelope. Its single row deep groove construction also supports axial forces in either direction, provided the operating loads remain within the bearing's design limits. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 146kN and a basic static load rating of 118kN, making it suitable for consideration in large drive systems where fatigue life and peak loading must be calculated. Compared with the narrower 6024 series, the 6224 provides greater load capacity but needs additional radial and axial installation space. Its approximate mass of 5.35kg should also be considered during handling and mounting.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals retain factory-applied grease and help protect the rolling elements against dust, moisture and debris. This is valuable in industrial installations where regular relubrication is difficult. SKF publishes a limiting speed of 1,900rpm for the contact-sealed version, significantly below that of the open bearing because of seal friction. Continuous operating suitability must also account for load, temperature and lubrication conditions. Normal radial internal clearance requires carefully selected shaft and housing fits, especially where substantial interference or thermal expansion affects installed clearance. During mounting, the bearing should be properly supported and installation forces applied directly to the appropriate ring rather than transmitted through the rolling elements.
Typical Applications:
Large industrial electric motor shaft assemblies
Heavy-duty conveyor and bulk material-handling drives
Industrial pumps and fluid processing machinery
Large ventilation and extraction fan systems
Industrial gearboxes and mechanical power transmission equipment
