The SKF 62304-2RS1 extra-wide sealed deep groove ball bearing is intended for rotating equipment built around a 21mm-wide bearing seat. It shares the 20mm bore and 52mm outside diameter of a standard 6304, but its additional 6mm of width changes the space required between shaft shoulders and housing retaining features. This makes it important to check the complete bearing designation rather than selecting by bore and outside diameter alone. The single row deep groove design carries predominantly radial loads and accommodates axial forces in either direction within its rated limits. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 15.9kN and a basic static load rating of 7.8kN. These figures should guide loading calculations; the wider profile does not automatically provide a higher load rating.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals retain factory-applied grease and help restrict dust, moisture and fine debris from entering the raceways. This arrangement is useful in enclosed handling and transmission mechanisms where frequent bearing servicing is inconvenient. SKF lists a limiting speed of 9,500rpm, although actual continuous operating suitability depends on temperature, applied loads and friction from the contacting seals. The bearing has normal (CN) radial internal clearance, so shaft interference fits and thermal expansion must be considered to preserve suitable clearance after mounting. For replacement work, confirm the 21mm width, contact-seal configuration and mounting arrangement before fitting.
