The SKF 6317-2RS1/C3 sealed deep groove ball bearing is engineered for substantial rotating machinery where an 85mm shaft requires a large, rigid bearing arrangement. With a 180mm outside diameter and 41mm width, its 63 series cross-section accommodates demanding radial loading while also supporting axial forces in either direction within the bearing's permissible limits. SKF specifies a 140kN basic dynamic load rating and a 96.5kN basic static load rating, making these values essential for assessing bearing fatigue life and peak operating loads. The SKF Explorer design and sheet metal cage provide a robust construction for industrial power transmission equipment, large motors and heavy-duty shaft assemblies.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals protect both sides of the bearing, retaining factory grease and restricting the entry of dust and moisture. SKF lists a 2,400rpm limiting speed for this sealed version; the actual permissible operating speed also depends on applied loads, temperature and seal friction. The C3 clearance designation identifies greater-than-normal radial internal clearance before mounting, helping accommodate clearance reductions caused by tight fits and differential thermal expansion. However, C3 is not automatically suitable for every motor or high-temperature application: shaft fits, housing fits and operating conditions must still be checked. When replacing an existing bearing, confirm the complete 6317-2RS1/C3 designation, as the standard-clearance version may not provide the same installed operating clearance.
Typical Applications:
Large industrial electric motor assemblies
Heavy-duty conveyor and transmission drives
Industrial gearboxes and rotating shaft supports
High-capacity pump and process machinery
