The SKF 16002-2Z shielded deep groove ball bearing is designed for rotating equipment where axial space is limited but a conventional 15mm shaft diameter is required. Its 32mm outside diameter matches the standard 6002 series, while the 8mm width is 1mm narrower, allowing installation in slimmer bearing housings. This dimensional difference matters when selecting shaft spacers, locating shoulders and retaining components. The single row deep groove construction accommodates radial loads together with axial forces in either direction, within its rated limits. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 5.85kN and a basic static load rating of 2.85kN, providing useful reference values for assessing operating loads and calculated bearing life.
The 2Z designation indicates two non-contact metal shields, one on each side of the bearing. These shields help retain the factory-applied grease and restrict the entry of larger contaminants while maintaining lower friction than contacting rubber seals. They are not intended to provide the same protection against water or fine contamination as contact-sealed alternatives, making the 16002-2Z especially appropriate for relatively clean operating environments. SKF lists a reference speed of 50,000rpm and a limiting speed of 26,000rpm; the suitable operating speed depends on lubrication, load, temperature and installation conditions. Normal (CN) radial internal clearance and a sheet metal cage complete the design. When replacing this bearing, confirm the 8mm width and 2Z shield specification, as a standard 6002 or rubber-sealed variant may not provide the same fit or operating characteristics.
