The SKF 61800-2Z shielded deep groove ball bearing offers a space-efficient solution for rotating assemblies that cannot accommodate a conventional 6000 series bearing. Its 10mm bore, 19mm outside diameter and 5mm width create a particularly thin radial cross-section, helping designers minimise housing size and component weight. The single row deep groove raceways accommodate radial loads together with axial forces in either direction, provided operating loads remain within the bearing's limits. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 1.72kN and a basic static load rating of 0.83kN. These values are important when assessing the suitability of this lightweight bearing for precise, relatively low-load mechanisms rather than heavier industrial shaft supports.
The 2Z designation indicates metal shields fitted on both sides of the bearing. Unlike rubber contact seals, these shields do not rub against the inner ring, helping reduce frictional resistance while retaining grease and providing protection against larger airborne particles. The non-contact arrangement is not intended to provide the same resistance to fine dust or moisture as a contact-sealed bearing. SKF specifies a limiting speed of 38,000rpm and a reference speed of 80,000rpm; these are different rating concepts and should not be treated as interchangeable operating limits. The bearing has normal (CN) radial internal clearance and is supplied grease-lubricated. When replacing a bearing, check whether the machine requires the low-friction 2Z configuration or the greater contamination protection of a 2RS1 version, as well as the specified mounting fits.
