The SKF 6024-2Z/C3 double-shielded deep groove ball bearing is designed for large-diameter shaft arrangements where available radial space is relatively limited. With a 120mm bore, 180mm outside diameter and 28mm width, its 60 series geometry offers a more compact cross-section than heavier bearing series of the same bore size. The single row deep groove raceways carry substantial radial loads while accommodating axial forces in either direction within the bearing's operating limits. Published specifications for this SKF variant give a basic dynamic load rating of 88.4kN and a basic static load rating of 80kN. These ratings are useful when assessing fatigue life, peak loads and suitability for industrial motor, pump or transmission applications.
The 2Z suffix identifies a pressed-steel shield on each side of the bearing. Unlike rubber contact seals, these non-contact shields minimise additional friction while retaining factory grease and offering protection against larger airborne particles. They are not intended to provide the same resistance to water or fine contamination as contact seals. The /C3 suffix specifies greater-than-normal radial internal clearance, which can help compensate for clearance reduction caused by interference fits and operating temperature differences. C3 clearance must still be checked against actual mounting and thermal conditions; it is not automatically preferable in every application. The bearing uses a sheet metal cage and has a published limiting speed of 3,800rpm. During replacement, confirm the full designation, especially the 2Z shielding and C3 clearance, rather than selecting by dimensions alone.
