The SKF 6021-2Z/C3 double-shielded deep groove ball bearing provides rotational support for machinery using a 105mm shaft where radial installation space is an important consideration. Its 160mm outside diameter and 26mm width give it a slimmer cross-section than heavier bearing series with the same bore. The single row deep groove raceways accommodate substantial radial loading and axial forces in either direction within the manufacturer's limits. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 76.1kN and a basic static load rating of 65.5kN, allowing engineers to assess fatigue life and stationary loading. The bearing incorporates a pressed steel cage and C3 internal clearance, providing greater initial radial clearance than a normal-clearance 6021 bearing. This distinction matters where interference fits and thermal expansion reduce clearance during operation.
The 2Z designation identifies two non-contact sheet metal shields, one on each side of the bearing. These help retain the factory-applied grease and restrict larger contaminants without the additional rubbing friction associated with rubber contact seals. However, shields are not watertight, so heavily contaminated or wet environments may require additional external protection. SKF lists a 4,300rpm limiting speed and an 8,500rpm reference speed; these are different rating concepts and should not be treated as interchangeable operating limits. Actual permissible speed depends on lubrication, load, temperature and the surrounding arrangement. When replacing the bearing, confirm both suffixes: a standard-clearance 6021-2Z does not provide the same initial clearance, while a 6021-2RS1/C3 uses a different sealing system.
