The SKF 61801-2RS1 sealed thin section deep groove ball bearing is engineered for miniature rotating assemblies where conventional bearings would require too much space around the shaft. Its exceptionally slim 618 series design provides only 4.5mm of radial section, making it particularly useful in small instruments, rotary mechanisms and compact equipment housings. The single row ball construction carries predominantly radial loads and limited axial forces in either direction. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 1.74kN, a basic static load rating of 0.915kN and a limiting speed of 20,000rpm. These ratings underline the need to assess actual loads carefully, particularly where shock loading, belt tension or repeated acceleration may influence bearing life.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals retain factory grease and help restrict dust and moisture from entering the bearing. This is advantageous in compact assemblies where separate lubrication arrangements would be impractical. However, contact seals generate more friction than open bearings, so operating temperature and rotational speed should be considered together. Normal radial internal clearance requires accurately specified shaft and housing fits, especially because the exceptionally thin rings can be affected by excessive interference or housing distortion. Appropriate mounting tools and careful alignment help protect the raceways during installation. The bearing is best suited to compact, suitably loaded mechanisms rather than applications demanding the higher load capacity of wider bearing series.
