The SKF 61817-2RS1 sealed thin-section deep groove ball bearing provides rotational support for 85mm shafts in equipment where conventional bearing arrangements would require excessive housing space. Its 618 series geometry combines a substantial bore with a narrow cross-section, making it useful for compact rotary equipment and large-diameter positioning mechanisms. The single row ball arrangement carries radial loads and accommodates axial forces in either direction within its rated capacity. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 19.5kN and a basic static load rating of 16.6kN. These figures help engineers assess bearing life and stationary loading, particularly because this thin-section design cannot automatically replace a wider, higher-capacity bearing with the same bore.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals retain factory grease and help restrict dust and moisture from reaching the rolling elements. This is valuable in enclosed assemblies where routine relubrication access is limited. SKF lists a limiting speed of 3,400rpm for the sealed configuration; contact seal friction and operating temperature must therefore be considered when assessing continuous running conditions. Normal radial internal clearance requires carefully selected shaft and housing fits, especially where interference mounting or thermal expansion can reduce installed clearance. The thin bearing rings also require uniform housing support and suitable mounting methods. Unlike the 61817-2RZ version, which uses non-contact seals, this bearing prioritises contact sealing and contamination protection.
Typical Applications:
Large-bore rotary positioning mechanisms
Industrial indexing and automation assemblies
Space-restricted shaft support systems
Lightly loaded rotary handling equipment
