The SKF 6202-2Z/C3 shielded deep groove ball bearing is designed for rotating machinery where low friction, reliable shaft support and appropriate internal clearance are important. Its 15mm bore, 35mm outside diameter and 11mm width make it suitable for compact bearing housings. The single row deep groove design accommodates radial loads and axial forces in either direction, within the bearing's rated capacity. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 8.06kN and a basic static load rating of 3.75kN. The C3 radial internal clearance is greater than normal, making this version suitable where operating temperatures or interference fits may reduce clearance after installation. C3 should nevertheless be selected according to the equipment manufacturer's requirements rather than assumed to be preferable for every application.
The 2Z designation identifies a metal shield on each side of the bearing. Unlike rubber contact seals, these non-contact shields generate minimal additional friction, making them particularly useful in higher-speed rotating assemblies. They help retain the factory-applied grease and limit the ingress of ordinary dust and debris, although they provide less protection against moisture and fine contamination than contacting rubber seals. SKF lists a 43,000rpm reference speed and a 22,000rpm limiting speed; these are catalogue values rather than guaranteed speeds for every installation. The sheet metal cage and SKF Explorer design support efficient operation in suitable conditions. When replacing a bearing, confirm both the 2Z shield arrangement and C3 clearance, since a 6202-2RS1 or standard-clearance 6202-2Z has different operating characteristics.
