The SKF 63008-2RS1 wide-section sealed deep groove ball bearing provides shaft support in machinery requiring an unusually deep axial bearing envelope relative to its outside diameter. Although its 40mm bore and 68mm outside diameter match the standard 6008, its 21mm width introduces an additional 6mm of axial space. This is an important distinction when checking shaft shoulders, housing recesses and retaining arrangements. Its single row deep groove raceway configuration carries predominantly radial loads and accommodates axial forces in either direction, within the bearing's rated limits. SKF catalogue data gives a basic dynamic load rating of 16.8kN and a basic static load rating of 11kN. The wider design should not be mistaken for a higher-capacity 6308 bearing, which has substantially different outside dimensions.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals protect the rolling elements on both sides, retaining the factory-applied grease while reducing the entry of dust, dirt and moisture. This can be beneficial in compact enclosed machinery where routine relubrication is difficult. SKF specifies a limiting speed of 6,300rpm for this sealed configuration, with continuous operating suitability dependent on load, temperature and contact seal friction. Normal (CN) radial internal clearance means shaft interference fits and thermal expansion must be assessed to maintain appropriate clearance during operation. The bearing weighs approximately 0.27kg. When selecting a replacement, verify the complete 63008-2RS1 designation: neither the narrower 6008 nor the larger 6308 is a direct dimensional substitute.
