The SKF 62208-2RS1/C3 wide sealed deep groove ball bearing is engineered for shaft assemblies requiring a 40mm bore, 80mm outside diameter and increased bearing width. At 23mm wide, it is 5mm wider than the conventional 6208, making it particularly important to check housing recesses, shaft shoulders and axial retention before installation. Its single row deep groove raceways accommodate radial loads and axial forces in either direction within the bearing's rated limits. SKF specifies a 30.7kN basic dynamic load rating and 19kN basic static load rating. The wide construction should not be assumed to provide greater load capacity than the narrower 6208; bearing selection must be based on the specified ratings and application conditions.
The defining feature of this version is its C3 radial internal clearance, which is greater than normal (CN). This can be beneficial where tight mounting fits or elevated operating temperatures reduce internal clearance, but it should not be selected automatically for every installation. The 2RS1 contact seals protect both sides of the bearing, retaining factory-applied grease and restricting the ingress of dust and moisture. A sheet metal cage separates the rolling elements, while SKF lists a 5,600rpm limiting speed for the sealed configuration. The bearing is supplied greased without a relubrication feature and has an approximate net weight of 0.46kg. When replacing a bearing, check both the 23mm width and the C3 suffix: the standard-clearance 62208-2RS1 is not necessarily suitable for the same operating conditions.
Typical Applications:
Industrial electric motors requiring C3 clearance
Conveyor drive shafts with wide bearing seats
Industrial pumps and circulating equipment
Mechanical transmissions with interference-fitted bearings
Agricultural and processing machinery shaft assemblies
