The SKF 6018-2Z shielded deep groove ball bearing supports 90mm shafts in industrial equipment where a 140mm housing diameter is available. Its 24mm width and relatively slim 60 series cross-section make it suitable where the larger 6218 bearing, measuring 90 x 160 x 30mm, cannot be accommodated. The single row deep groove raceways carry predominantly radial loads while also supporting axial forces in either direction within the bearing's rated limits. SKF specifications give a basic dynamic load rating of 60.5kN and a basic static load rating of 50kN. These values provide the basis for evaluating fatigue life, stationary loading and suitability for continuous-duty rotating machinery. The bearing uses a stamped steel cage and normal (CN) radial internal clearance.
The 2Z suffix identifies two non-contact metal shields, one on each side. These shields help retain the factory grease and restrict larger contaminants while avoiding the sliding contact friction generated by rubber-sealed alternatives. They do not provide the same resistance to fine dust, water or washdown exposure as contact seals, so operating conditions should be assessed carefully. SKF lists a 10,000rpm reference speed and a 5,000rpm limiting speed for this configuration; the appropriate permissible operating speed depends on lubrication, heat generation and operating conditions. Unlike the 6018-2RS1, the 2Z version prioritises reduced seal friction over maximum contamination exclusion. During replacement, verify the full suffix, normal clearance and mounting dimensions, particularly where shaft interference fits could affect running clearance.
