SKF 6008-2RS1/GJN Sealed Deep Groove Ball Bearing
The SKF 6008-2RS1/GJN is a sealed single row deep groove ball bearing designed for smooth rotation and effective shaft support in industrial machinery. It accommodates radial loads and axial loads in both directions while combining rubber contact seals with a special GJN grease specification.
Its dimensions of 40x68x15mm make it suitable for compact assemblies requiring a 40mm shaft bore.
Design and Construction
The SKF 6008-2RS1/GJN features a single row of steel balls running between deep raceway grooves. A sheet metal cage separates and guides the rolling elements during rotation.
Its bearing steel construction provides effective load support under suitable operating conditions. The 6008 series offers a smaller outside diameter and narrower profile than the 6208 series while retaining the same 40mm bore.
2RS1 Contact Seals and GJN Lubrication
The 2RS1 designation indicates rubber contact seals on both sides of the bearing. These help retain factory applied grease while restricting the entry of dust, moisture and other contaminants.
The GJN suffix identifies a special polyurea thickened, mineral oil based grease. SKF describes this grease as suitable for quiet running and a wide operating temperature range, including elevated temperatures. It is distinct from standard grease fills and should be matched to the application's lubrication requirements.
The bearing has normal radial internal clearance, not C3 clearance. Its sealed construction reduces routine lubrication requirements, although contact seals introduce more friction than an open bearing.
