The SKF 63004-2RS1 wide-section sealed deep groove ball bearing is designed for machinery where a relatively small radial bearing envelope must be combined with a wider axial mounting arrangement. Its 20mm bore and 42mm outside diameter match the standard 6004 series, but its 16mm width requires an additional 4mm of installation space. This distinction affects shaft shoulders, housing recesses and retaining components, making the bearings unsuitable as direct dimensional substitutes. The single row deep groove construction supports predominantly radial loads and limited axial forces in either direction. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 9.36kN and a basic static load rating of 5kN. These figures are particularly important because the greater width does not automatically provide higher load capacity than the narrower 6004 bearing.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals retain factory-applied grease and help protect the rolling elements against dust, moisture and debris. This arrangement is useful in enclosed mechanical assemblies where frequent relubrication would be inconvenient. SKF lists a limiting speed of 11,000rpm, although continuous operation must also account for applied loads, temperature and friction from the contacting seals. Its normal (CN) radial internal clearance requires suitable shaft and housing fits to preserve adequate clearance after mounting. For replacement work, distinguish the 63004-2RS1 from both the narrower 6004 and the larger 6304, which has a different outside diameter. Confirm the full designation and apply mounting forces directly to the ring being fitted.
