The SKF 6217-2RS1 sealed deep groove ball bearing is intended for industrial machinery where an 85mm shaft must operate under significant radial loading. Its SKF Explorer design uses a single row of balls running in deep raceway grooves, enabling the bearing to carry predominantly radial loads while accommodating axial forces in either direction within its operating limits. The 62 series provides a useful compromise between the narrower 6017 bearing and the heavier 6317 series. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 87.1kN and a basic static load rating of 64kN. These values are important when calculating bearing life, assessing peak loads and determining whether the chosen bearing is suitable for the machine's duty cycle.
The 2RS1 double rubber contact seals retain the factory grease and help prevent dust, moisture and other contaminants from entering the rolling elements. This makes the bearing a practical option for enclosed industrial drives with limited routine lubrication access. SKF publishes a limiting speed of 2,800rpm for this sealed configuration, so seal friction, load and operating temperature should be considered when establishing continuous running conditions. Normal (CN) radial internal clearance distinguishes it from the 6217-2RS1/C3 variant, which provides greater initial clearance. Correct shaft and housing fits, accurate alignment and appropriate mounting procedures are essential, especially where interference fits and temperature differences affect the remaining operating clearance.
Typical Applications:
Large industrial electric motors and drive units
Heavy-duty conveyor and material-handling systems
Industrial pump shaft assemblies
Large ventilation fans and extraction equipment
Mechanical power transmission machinery
