The SKF 62204-2RS1/C3 sealed deep groove ball bearing is designed for machinery requiring a 20mm shaft bore and a wider bearing arrangement within a 47mm housing diameter. Its 18mm width distinguishes it from the conventional 6204 bearing, which measures 14mm wide. This difference must be considered when checking shaft shoulders, housing recesses, spacers and retaining components. The single row deep groove raceways accommodate predominantly radial loads together with axial forces in either direction, subject to the bearing's rated capacity. Published specifications give a basic dynamic load rating of 12.7kN and a basic static load rating of 6.55kN. The extended width should not be assumed to increase load capacity over the standard-width equivalent.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals retain grease and restrict the ingress of contaminants, helping protect the rolling elements in industrial environments where regular relubrication is inconvenient. The C3 suffix indicates greater radial internal clearance than normal, allowing for some reduction in clearance caused by mounting interference or differential thermal expansion. It is not automatically the correct choice for every installation; bearing fits, operating temperature and actual loading must be assessed. SKF lists a limiting speed of 10,000rpm for this configuration, although continuous operation also depends on seal friction, lubrication and thermal conditions. A sheet metal cage separates the rolling elements. When replacing an existing bearing, verify both the 18mm width and the C3 designation, as a standard-clearance 62204-2RS1 is not necessarily functionally interchangeable.
Typical Applications:
Industrial electric motors with specified C3 clearance
Compact mechanical drive and transmission units
Conveyor rollers and shaft support mechanisms
Industrial pumps with suitable bearing arrangements
Packaging and processing machinery with 18mm-wide bearing seats
