The SKF 62309-2RS1 extra-wide sealed deep groove ball bearing is intended for rotating machinery designed around a 36mm bearing width. Although it shares the 45mm bore and 100mm outside diameter of a standard 6309 bearing, the extra 11mm of axial width affects housing shoulders, shaft spacers and retaining arrangements. Its single row deep groove raceways carry predominantly radial loads while accommodating axial forces in either direction within the bearing's rated limits. Published SKF catalogue specifications give a basic dynamic load rating of 52.7kN and a basic static load rating of 31.5kN. Notably, the wider construction does not automatically provide greater load capacity than the narrower 6309, so engineers should use the actual ratings when evaluating bearing life and operating duty.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals retain the factory grease and help restrict dirt, dust and moisture from reaching the rolling elements. This construction is advantageous in enclosed conveyor drives and processing equipment where regular lubrication access may be difficult. The bearing has a published limiting speed of 4,500rpm, although permissible continuous operation also depends on temperature, load and contact seal friction. Normal radial internal clearance requires appropriate shaft and housing fits to preserve sufficient operating clearance after installation. For replacement work, check the complete designation and 36mm width rather than selecting by bore and outside diameter alone. Mounting forces should be applied to the ring being fitted to avoid damage to the raceways.

Enclosed mechanical transmission assemblies
Processing and production machinery
Heavy-duty rotating shaft support equipment
Specialised machinery with 36mm-wide bearing seats
