The SKF 628/9-2RS1 sealed miniature deep groove ball bearing provides rotational support in compact machinery where a 9mm shaft must fit inside a 17mm outside bearing diameter. Its 5mm width makes it useful for narrow bearing seats, while the single row deep groove raceways accommodate radial loads and limited axial forces in either direction. SKF product specifications give a basic dynamic load rating of 0.871kN and a basic static load rating of 0.34kN. These ratings are important when assessing bearing life and permissible loading in small mechanisms. Although the 628/9 shares its bore and outside diameter with the 618/9 series, its additional width requires the correct spacing between shaft shoulders and housing retainers.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals provide protection on both sides of the bearing, retaining factory-applied grease and helping restrict the entry of dust, dirt and moisture. This makes the bearing particularly useful in miniature assemblies where regular lubrication is difficult or undesirable. SKF lists a limiting speed of 24,000rpm, although continuous operation must take account of load, temperature and contact seal friction. The bearing features normal (CN) radial internal clearance and a sheet steel cage, with an approximate mass of 4.3g. Because miniature bearings are sensitive to incorrect installation, select suitable shaft and housing fits and apply mounting force only to the ring being fitted. Confirm the complete designation before replacing an open or shielded bearing.
