The SKF 6308-2RS1 sealed deep groove ball bearing provides shaft support where a 40mm bore must accommodate higher radial loads than lighter bearing arrangements of the same shaft size. Its 63 series geometry incorporates a larger cross-section than the 6208, making the available 90mm housing diameter and 23mm width important selection factors. The single row deep groove raceways support radial loads and accommodate axial forces in either direction, subject to the bearing's operating limits. SKF Explorer specifications give a basic dynamic load rating of 42.3kN and a basic static load rating of 24kN. These figures provide a reference for fatigue-life calculations and assessing the suitability of motor, pump or transmission applications.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals are fitted on both sides to retain factory-applied grease and help prevent contaminants from reaching the rolling elements. This makes the bearing useful in enclosed industrial equipment where routine lubrication access is limited. SKF lists a limiting speed of 5,000rpm, although actual continuous running conditions must account for load, temperature, grease performance and contact seal friction. The bearing has normal (CN) radial internal clearance rather than the increased clearance of a 6308-2RS1/C3. Because bearing fits and temperature differences can change internal clearance after installation, the complete designation should be checked against the equipment manufacturer's requirements. Mounting forces should be directed through the fitted ring to avoid damage to the raceways.
