The SKF 6308-2RS1/C3 sealed deep groove ball bearing combines a 40mm bore, 90mm outside diameter and 23mm width with the load-carrying capability of the 63 series. SKF Explorer specifications give a basic dynamic load rating of 42.3kN and a basic static load rating of 24kN. Its single row deep groove raceways accommodate predominantly radial loads together with axial forces in either direction, subject to the bearing's rated limits. The key distinction is the C3 internal clearance, which is greater than normal before mounting. This additional clearance may be appropriate where tight shaft fits or operating temperature differences reduce the clearance available during running. However, C3 is not universally preferable: excessive operating clearance can affect noise, vibration and load distribution.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals on both sides retain factory grease while helping exclude dust, dirt and moisture from the rolling elements. This arrangement reduces routine lubrication requirements in enclosed motor housings, pumps and industrial drives. SKF specifies a limiting speed of 5,000rpm for this configuration, although continuous operating suitability also depends on bearing load, temperature and contact seal friction. The bearing uses a sheet metal cage and is supplied without a relubrication feature. When selecting a replacement, verify that the equipment requires C3 clearance rather than the normal-clearance 6308-2RS1. Both versions share the same principal dimensions and load ratings, but their internal clearances are not interchangeable without assessing the operating conditions.
Typical Applications:
Industrial electric motors requiring C3 clearance
Centrifugal pumps and process machinery
Agricultural equipment and rotating drive assemblies
Industrial gearboxes and power transmission systems
Conveyor pulley shafts and heavy-duty drive mechanisms
