The SKF 6309-2RS1 sealed deep groove ball bearing is designed for machinery where a 45mm shaft must withstand demanding radial loads and occasional axial loading. Its 100mm outside diameter and 25mm width give it a substantially larger cross-section than the 6209 series, which measures 45 x 85 x 19mm. This makes the 6309 a higher-capacity option, but not a direct dimensional replacement. SKF specifies a 55.3kN basic dynamic load rating and a 31.5kN basic static load rating, making the bearing suitable for consideration in heavily loaded rotating assemblies. The single row deep groove raceways accommodate radial loads and axial forces in either direction, within the bearing's design limits. These characteristics are valuable in equipment exposed to changing operating loads and continuous shaft rotation.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals protect both sides of the bearing, retaining factory-applied grease while helping prevent dust, dirt and moisture from reaching the raceways. This arrangement reduces the need for routine relubrication in enclosed machinery. SKF specifies a 4,500rpm limiting speed, although permissible continuous operation also depends on applied load, operating temperature and contact seal friction. The bearing features normal (CN) radial internal clearance, unlike the 6309-2RS1/C3 version, which provides greater initial clearance. During installation, appropriate shaft and housing fits are essential to maintain suitable running clearance. Replacement selection should account for the full designation, bearing dimensions and operating conditions rather than bore diameter alone.
