The SKF 6403-2RS1 sealed deep groove ball bearing is designed for rotating machinery where a relatively small 17mm shaft must withstand substantial mechanical loading. Its 62mm outside diameter and 17mm width distinguish it from the smaller 6303, which measures 17 x 47 x 14mm. The larger 64 series cross-section provides greater load-carrying capacity but requires correspondingly more housing space. The single row deep groove raceways accommodate predominantly radial loads together with axial forces in either direction, subject to the bearing's rated limits. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 22.9kN and a basic static load rating of 10.8kN. These figures support bearing-life calculations and help engineers evaluate suitability for heavily loaded drives, transmission shafts and industrial machinery.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals retain the factory grease and help prevent dust, dirt and moisture from entering the rolling elements. The sealed construction reduces the need for routine relubrication and is useful where bearing access is restricted. SKF-generated technical data lists a limiting speed of 8,500rpm for this contact-sealed version; operating speed must also be evaluated against load, temperature and seal friction. Normal (CN) radial internal clearance distinguishes the standard bearing from the 6403-2RS1/C3, which has greater initial clearance. Suitable shaft and housing fits are important to preserve running clearance after installation. When replacing a bearing, check the full designation and all three dimensions, as neither a 6303 nor an open 6403 provides an identical specification.
