The SKF 6318-2RS1/C3 sealed deep groove ball bearing provides robust rotational support for industrial equipment requiring a 90mm shaft bore and a high-capacity bearing arrangement. Its 190mm outside diameter and 43mm width offer a substantial cross-section for applications subject to significant radial loading. The single row deep groove construction also accommodates axial forces in either direction within the bearing's rated limits. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 151kN and a basic static load rating of 108kN, making these values central to fatigue-life calculations and the assessment of stationary or intermittent loading. Compared with the smaller 6218 series, the 6318 requires considerably more housing space but offers higher rated load capacity.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals protect both sides of the bearing, retaining factory grease and helping restrict the ingress of dirt, dust and moisture. SKF lists a limiting speed of 2,400rpm for this sealed configuration, although actual operating suitability depends on the applied loads, temperature and seal friction. The C3 clearance designation is particularly important: it indicates greater radial internal clearance than normal (CN), allowing for reductions caused by tight mounting fits and differential thermal expansion. C3 is not automatically preferable for every installation; the correct running clearance must be determined from operating conditions. The bearing also features a sheet metal cage and SKF Explorer performance classification. During installation, verify shaft and housing tolerances, support the ring being fitted and confirm the complete 6318-2RS1/C3 designation rather than selecting by dimensions alone.
