Description

SKF 6008 Open Deep Groove Ball Bearing

The SKF 6008 is an open single row deep groove ball bearing designed for smooth rotation and efficient support of rotating shafts. It accommodates radial loads and axial loads in both directions while maintaining low friction. Its slim profile makes it suitable for assemblies requiring the standard 6008 dimensions and normal radial internal clearance.

Design and Construction

The SKF 6008 features a single row of steel balls running between deep raceway grooves. A sheet metal cage separates and guides the rolling elements during rotation.

Its bearing steel construction provides strength and effective load support under suitable operating conditions. With dimensions of 40x68x15mm, it offers a smaller outside diameter and narrower profile than the 6208 series while retaining the same 40mm bore.

Open Design and Internal Clearance

The bearing features an open design without seals or shields. This allows grease or oil to reach the rolling elements directly and makes it suitable for machinery with an appropriate lubrication system.

It has normal radial internal clearance for applications where standard clearance is specified. Suitable external sealing may be necessary to protect against contamination and lubricant loss.

Applications

The SKF 6008 can be considered for rotating equipment where its dimensions and operating characteristics meet the machinery requirements.

Electric motors

Industrial pumps

Fans and ventilation equipment

Mechanical drive assemblies

Industrial transmission equipment

General rotating machinery

Benefits

The SKF 6008 offers several practical advantages.

Low Friction: Supports smooth rotation while helping reduce mechanical energy losses.

Combined Load Support: Accommodates radial loads and axial loads in both directions.

Slim Construction: Provides shaft support where a 40mm bore and relatively small outside diameter are required.

High Speed Capability: Its deep groove design supports relatively high rotational speeds with suitable lubrication.

Flexible Lubrication: Open construction allows direct grease or oil lubrication.

Normal Internal Clearance: Provides the standard clearance arrangement for equipment where normal clearance is specified.

Bearing Selection

Before purchasing, confirm that the 40x68x15mm dimensions and normal radial internal clearance match your equipment requirements.

Check operating loads and speeds alongside shaft and housing fits. Lubrication and contamination exposure should also be considered. If increased internal clearance is required, the SKF 6008/C3 may be more suitable. For applications requiring integrated sealing, check the corresponding sealed or shielded SKF 6008 variants.
