The SKF 6218-2RS1/C3 sealed deep groove ball bearing provides a dependable solution for larger industrial shaft assemblies requiring both high load capacity and increased internal clearance. With a 90mm bore, 160mm outside diameter and 30mm width, it supports predominantly radial loading alongside axial forces acting in either direction, within its rated capacity. SKF Explorer construction offers a basic dynamic load rating of 101kN and a basic static load rating of 73.5kN. These specifications help engineers evaluate bearing fatigue life and resistance to permanent deformation under heavy or intermittent loading. The C3 designation is particularly important: unlike the standard-clearance 6218-2RS1, this version has greater initial radial internal clearance, which can help compensate for clearance reductions caused by tight mounting fits and temperature differences between the bearing rings.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals are fitted on both sides to retain factory-applied grease and restrict the entry of dust, dirt and moisture. This makes the bearing suitable for industrial installations where access for regular lubrication is limited. SKF specifies a limiting speed of 2,600rpm for the sealed configuration; continuous operating conditions must also be assessed against temperature, applied load and seal friction. The bearing incorporates a sheet metal cage and is supplied without a relubrication feature. C3 clearance should not be selected automatically for every application, as excessive operating clearance can affect vibration and load distribution. Always confirm the original equipment requirement, shaft and housing tolerances, and complete bearing suffix before installation.
Typical Applications:
Large industrial electric motors requiring C3 clearance
Heavy-duty centrifugal pumps and circulation systems
Industrial gearboxes and mechanical power transmissions
Conveyor drive shafts and bulk-material handling machinery
Agricultural and processing equipment with large rotating shafts
