The SKF 6222-2Z double shielded deep groove ball bearing is designed for substantial rotating equipment where a 110mm shaft must be supported within a 200mm housing bore. Its 38mm width provides a robust bearing arrangement for industrial power transmission applications. The single row deep groove raceways accommodate predominantly radial loads together with axial forces in both directions, within the bearing's rated capacity. SKF specifies a 151kN basic dynamic load rating and 118kN basic static load rating, making these figures important for fatigue-life calculations and assessing heavy or intermittent loading. Compared with the slimmer 6022 series, the 6222 has a larger outside diameter and greater width, so both load requirements and available installation space must be considered.
The 2Z designation identifies a steel shield on each side of the bearing. Unlike rubber contact seals, these shields do not rub against the inner ring, reducing friction and heat generation while helping retain factory-applied grease. They provide useful protection against larger particles but are less effective than contact seals against fine dust, water and other contaminants. SKF specifies a 6,700rpm reference speed and 3,400rpm limiting speed for this configuration; the limiting speed is the relevant upper design constraint, subject to operating conditions. The bearing has normal (CN) radial internal clearance and a sheet metal cage. Where elevated temperatures or interference fits require additional running clearance, the separate 6222-2Z/C3 specification should be assessed. Confirm the complete designation before replacement.
