The SKF 62208-2RS1 wide-series sealed deep groove ball bearing provides rotational support for industrial equipment built around a 23mm-wide bearing position. Unlike a conventional 6208 bearing, which measures 40 x 80 x 18mm, this version requires an additional 5mm of axial space. That difference affects the position of shaft shoulders, spacers and retaining components, making dimensional verification essential during replacement. The single row deep groove arrangement supports predominantly radial loads while accommodating axial forces in either direction within its rated limits. Its basic dynamic load rating is 30.7kN, with a basic static load rating of 19kN. The wider profile should not be mistaken for higher load capacity than a standard 6208; the actual ratings must be used when calculating bearing life.
The 2RS1 rubber contact seals are fitted on both sides to retain factory-applied grease and help protect the raceways against dirt, airborne particles and moisture. This makes the bearing useful in enclosed industrial mechanisms where frequent relubrication is inconvenient. Its published limiting speed is 5,600rpm, although continuous running suitability also depends on loading, operating temperature and contact seal friction. Normal radial internal clearance differs from the increased clearance of the 62208-2RS1/C3 variant, so shaft fits, housing tolerances and thermal expansion require attention. When fitting a replacement, confirm the complete designation and apply mounting force to the appropriate bearing ring rather than through the rolling elements.
