The SKF 16003-2Z shielded deep groove ball bearing is engineered for rotating assemblies where the available axial space is more restricted than the shaft and housing diameters. Its 17mm bore and 35mm outside diameter match the standard 6003 series, but the 8mm width is 2mm narrower. This distinction is important when checking shaft shoulders, spacers and bearing retainers, as the two versions are not direct dimensional substitutes without assessing the mounting arrangement. Its single row deep groove raceways accommodate predominantly radial loads together with axial loads in either direction, within the bearing's rated capacity. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 6.37kN and a basic static load rating of 3.25kN, providing useful reference values for bearing life and load calculations.
The 2Z designation identifies steel shields on both sides rather than rubber contact seals. These non-contact shields help retain the factory-applied grease and reduce the entry of larger dust particles without introducing the same contact friction as 2RS1 or 2RSH seals. They are therefore particularly appropriate for relatively clean machinery where low-friction running is important, but they offer less protection against moisture and fine contamination than contact seals. SKF lists a 22,000rpm limiting speed and 45,000rpm reference speed for this bearing; these are different engineering ratings, not interchangeable operating limits. With normal (CN) internal clearance and a pressed sheet metal cage, the bearing requires appropriate shaft and housing fits. Its approximately 32g weight makes it a compact choice for precision mechanical assemblies.
Typical Applications:
Compact electric motors operating in relatively clean environments
Precision mechanical transmission and drive assemblies
Industrial automation and positioning mechanisms
Light-duty pulley and conveyor guide systems
Equipment with narrow 8mm-wide bearing seats
