The SKF 6005-2Z double-shielded deep groove ball bearing provides compact rotational support for 25mm shafts in equipment where low friction and reliable running performance are important. Its 47mm outside diameter and 12mm width make it particularly suitable for installations with limited radial and axial space. The single row deep groove raceways accommodate predominantly radial loads together with axial forces in either direction, subject to the bearing's rated capacity. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 11.9kN and a basic static load rating of 6.55kN, allowing engineers to assess operating loads and expected bearing life. Compared with the larger 6205 and 6305 series, the 6005 has a smaller cross-section, so bearing selection should consider both available space and load requirements.
The 2Z designation identifies a steel shield fitted on each side of the bearing. Unlike rubber contact seals, these shields do not rub continuously against the inner ring, helping reduce friction and making the bearing suitable for relatively high-speed operation. They retain factory-applied grease and provide protection against larger airborne particles, but are less effective than contact seals where water, fine dust or washdown exposure is expected. SKF lists a 16,000rpm limiting speed for this configuration, with actual operating suitability dependent on load, temperature and lubrication conditions. The bearing has normal (CN) radial internal clearance and a pressed steel cage. During replacement, confirm the full designation, as 6005-2Z, 6005-2Z/C3 and rubber-sealed 6005 variants may have different operating characteristics despite sharing the same dimensions.
