The SKF 6303-2Z double-shielded deep groove ball bearing provides a practical balance of load capacity, rotational speed and compact installation dimensions. Its 17mm bore, 47mm outside diameter and 14mm width suit equipment requiring a robust bearing within a relatively small housing. The single row deep groove raceways support predominantly radial loads together with axial forces in either direction, subject to the bearing's operating limits. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 14.3kN and a basic static load rating of 6.55kN. These ratings help engineers assess bearing fatigue life and stationary loading in applications such as electric motors, fans and drive assemblies. The SKF Explorer classification and sheet metal cage further identify this particular bearing configuration.
The 2Z suffix denotes a metal shield on each side of the bearing. Unlike the contacting rubber seals of a 6303-2RS1 or 6303-2RSH, these shields operate without intentional contact with the inner ring, reducing friction and making them suitable for applications where rotational efficiency is important. The shields help retain the factory grease and restrict larger contaminant particles, but they provide less protection against fine dust and moisture than contact seals. SKF lists a 17,000rpm limiting speed and a 34,000rpm reference speed; these are different specifications, not interchangeable continuous operating limits. The bearing has normal (CN) radial internal clearance, rather than the increased clearance of the 6303-2Z/C3. When replacing a bearing, confirm its shield arrangement, clearance and dimensions, and apply mounting forces only to the ring being fitted.
