The SKF 629-2Z double-shielded miniature deep groove ball bearing is engineered for small rotating assemblies where a 9mm shaft requires reliable support without sacrificing rotational speed. Its 26mm outside diameter and 8mm width provide a more substantial bearing cross-section than the smaller 609 series, subject to available housing space. The single row deep groove raceways accommodate radial forces and axial loads acting in either direction within the manufacturer's rated limits. SKF specifies a basic dynamic load rating of 4.75kN and a basic static load rating of 1.96kN, making these useful reference values when calculating bearing life or evaluating intermittent loading. SKF Explorer construction is designed to support efficient operation with low noise and vibration.
The 2Z designation identifies a steel shield on each side of the bearing rather than rubber contact seals. These non-contact shields help retain the factory grease and reduce the entry of larger airborne particles while generating less sealing friction than contacting rubber lips. They are particularly appropriate for relatively clean, high-speed environments; equipment exposed to persistent moisture, washdown or fine contamination may require a contact-sealed alternative such as the SKF 629-2RSH. SKF lists a 30,000rpm limiting speed and 60,000rpm reference speed, although these figures are not interchangeable and actual permissible operating speed depends on load, lubrication and temperature. Normal (CN) radial internal clearance and a sheet metal cage complete the specification. For replacements, confirm that the original bearing requires 2Z shields rather than 2RSH seals or C3 clearance.
