The SKF 6316-2Z/C3 shielded deep groove ball bearing is engineered for larger rotating assemblies where an 80mm shaft must be supported against demanding mechanical loads. Its 170mm outside diameter and 39mm width provide the substantial bearing cross-section characteristic of the 63 series. The single row deep groove raceways accommodate high radial loads together with axial forces in either direction, subject to the bearing's operating limits. Published SKF product specifications give a basic dynamic load rating of 130kN and a basic static load rating of 86.5kN. These ratings provide essential inputs for bearing life calculations and the assessment of operating and stationary loads. A pressed steel cage separates and guides the rolling elements.
The 2Z suffix identifies non-contact pressed steel shields on both sides of the bearing. These help retain the factory-applied grease and limit the entry of larger contaminants while creating less friction than rubber contact seals. They are not equivalent to fully contacting seals where water or fine contaminant exclusion is critical. The /C3 suffix specifies radial internal clearance greater than normal (CN), which can help accommodate clearance reductions caused by interference fits and temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. C3 clearance is not automatically preferable for every application; it should match the original equipment requirements. When replacing a bearing, verify the complete 6316-2Z/C3 designation, shaft and housing tolerances, lubrication conditions and mounting procedure before installation.
