The SKF 6001-2Z double-shielded deep groove ball bearing is engineered for compact rotating assemblies where low friction, efficient running and dimensional accuracy are important. Its 12mm bore, 28mm outside diameter and 8mm width make it suitable for small shafts and restricted housing spaces. The single row deep groove raceways accommodate radial loads and axial loads in either direction, subject to the bearing's operating limits. SKF specifies a 5.4kN basic dynamic load rating and a 2.36kN basic static load rating, providing useful figures for assessing bearing life and loading in motors, fans and light-duty power transmission equipment. Its SKF Explorer performance classification reflects the manufacturer's enhanced bearing design and manufacturing standards.
The 2Z designation identifies a metal shield on each side of the bearing. These non-contact shields help retain the factory-applied grease and reduce the entry of larger airborne contaminants without introducing the additional friction associated with rubber contact seals. SKF lists a 30,000rpm limiting speed and a 60,000rpm reference speed, although the actual permissible operating speed depends on lubrication, load, temperature and the installation arrangement. The bearing has normal (CN) radial internal clearance and a sheet metal cage. For dusty or wet environments, a contact-sealed alternative may provide better contamination protection. When replacing an existing bearing, check the full designation: 6001-2Z has two metal shields, whereas 6001-2RS1 uses two rubber contact seals.
