The SKF 6004-2Z shielded deep groove ball bearing provides efficient shaft support where a 20mm bore must fit within a relatively compact 42mm housing diameter. Its 12mm width makes it suitable for space-conscious assemblies, while the single row deep groove raceways accommodate radial loads together with axial forces in either direction, subject to bearing capacity and operating conditions. Published specifications give a basic dynamic load rating of 9.95kN and a basic static load rating of 5kN. The bearing also has a published limiting speed of 19,000rpm, making it a practical choice for equipment requiring controlled friction and reliable rotation. Compared with the larger 6204 bearing, the 6004 occupies less radial and axial space, although the available load capacity is also lower.
The 2Z designation identifies two steel shields, one fitted to each side of the bearing. Unlike the rubbing rubber seals used on 2RS1 or 2RSH variants, these shields do not contact the inner ring, helping minimise frictional torque and heat generation. They retain factory grease and offer protection against larger particles but are not intended to provide watertight sealing or the same fine-contamination resistance as contact seals. The standard 6004-2Z has normal (CN) radial internal clearance; the separately designated 6004-2Z/C3 has greater clearance. Suitable shaft and housing tolerances should be checked before installation, particularly in motor assemblies where temperature changes can affect internal clearance. For replacements, confirm both the shield type and clearance suffix rather than relying on the 20 x 42 x 12mm dimensions alone.
